School Lunch for a Rural School of 90 Students
Feed a nutritious hot lunch to a rural mountain school with about 90 students for $35 for a day.
The Brigade's school feeding program provides a nutritious and delicious lunch to every child at the schools where we work. These fresh cooked meals are currently a pre-portioned recipe with 21 ingredients including beans, soy, and rice. A team of mothers in the community takes turns preparing the pre-portioned food provided by the Brigade to the schools, serving the mid-day meal to children at the school. And the kids of all ages love it - the children can be seen running to the queue, smiling and giggling while they wait in line for their turn.
The Brigade did a large survey this July, and we found that schools with meals see higher attendance and reduced dropout, with parents, teachers, and students all citing school meals as a driver for attendance. In fact, the UN did a study with Harvard University that found for every $1 invested in school meals, there is a $9 return on investment!
Looking forward to the 2025 School Year (Honduran schools start at the end of February), many schools have asked us to provide similar meals for them, and we’re working to meet the need.
